RESUMO: As organizações internacionais se tornaram parte integrante da comunidade internacional há mais de um século, dado que os Estados enfrentam uma miríade de questões comuns, envolvendo saúde, economia, demografia, refugiados e diferendos político, os quais não têm condições de resolver de forma isolada. Uma das mais relevantes dessas organizações inter-estatais é a Organização Mundial da Saúde — OMS, a qual, em épocas de pandemias, como a da recente Covid-19, emite recomendações e oferece apoio científico e material aos Estados, bem como serve como guia sobre saúde pública a governos e autoridades da saúde em todo o mundo. Este artigo pretende examinar de forma sintética suas origens, importância para a comunidade internacional e modus operandi, que ficou ainda mais evidente na crise mundial provocada pelo Covid-19.

ABSTRACT: International organizations have been part and parcel of the international community for over a century, as States face a myriad of common issues concerning health, economic, demography, refugees and political differences, which they are not able to solve individually. One of the most relevant of these inter-state institutions is the World Health Organizations-WHO, which, in times of pandemics, such as the recent Covid-19, issues recommendations and offer scientific and material support to the States and serve as a public health guidance to governments and health officials around the globe. This article seeks to briefly examine its origins, its importance to the international community and its modus operandi, which became even more evident during the world crisis caused by Covid-19.
